You have a lawn at home. However, you do not have the necessary knowledge to take care of it. Fortunately, there are very easy tips to implement so that your garden breathes health. Here’s what you need to know.
Perform soil scarification
Over time, plant residues such as grass, dead leaves, and roots form a layer on the surface of the soil. This will cause thatch to prevent air circulation, and rain as well as nutrients will no longer easily penetrate the soil. The grass will therefore become dehydrated and lack minerals, while the rest of the soil surface will promote moss, which will quickly suffocate your grass.

To remove thatch and moss, you need to use a scarifier or a rake. Scarification should be done about once a year to quickly cut through the entanglement of plants and moss. The grass can then easily regenerate, and you can fully enjoy it.
Before performing scarification, it is advisable to mow the lawn short and collect the cut grass. You can use a string trimmer to perfect your mowing. The use of this equipment is well explained here. To ensure your scarification is done properly, it’s good to cross the passes of the scarifier.

Weed the lawn
It is important to weed your lawn to have a dense grass that enjoys excellent health. Weeds often carry diseases and can quickly invade the area. It is therefore advisable to weed at least twice a year. The best time to do the first weeding is in spring. This will eliminate weeds before they grow. Then, you can weed once at the end of autumn.
Depending on whether your area is large or not and based on the density of the weeds, you can weed by hand or use a herbicide. For hand weeding, you should start by watering the lawn to make it easier to uproot. You can also weed manually with a knife if needed.
Topdress the lawn
Like fertilizer, topdressing will nourish the grass and enrich your soil. Additionally, topdressing will modify the soil structure by making it less acidic or less compact. It is advisable to perform topdressing just after scarifying the ground. The topdressing will then mix better with the soil, and the nutrients will allow for deeper penetration into the soil.
You simply need to spread the topdressing by applying two shovelfuls of topdressing per m². The ideal here is to use a spreader, setting the distribution opening to maximum.
Water the lawn
It is necessary to water your lawn often, especially in summer. During this season, rain is not necessarily frequent, and lawns can dry out. It is also not good to water too frequently. This prevents the roots from developing well downward to seek moisture, and the grass becomes very sensitive during drought.
